Karen Carter • Associate Producer
Karen Carter, a Chicago based producer/director, met Jessica Yu in 1999 while conducting a workshop at the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival. Passionate about the arts and arts education, Karen was instrumental in pulling together a devoted crew to film and document Henry Darger’s tiny 10’ x 10’ room before it was dismantled.

Karen has just completed RUTH DUCKWORTH: A LIFE IN CLAY, a documentary film about the celebrated sculptor. The film is accompanying a retrospective exhibit of Duckworth’s work traveling to North American museums for the next two years. It was awarded best documentary at the 2004 Silver Images Film Festival.

Karen also created a documentary series called ME IN A BOX to help children explore identity through art for Nickelodeon . She won the Roy Dean Film Grant for her film BRAVE GIRLS, in addition to producing the documentary portrait, ASK NOT: PEOPLE WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Having been actively involved in film production for the past twenty years, Karen has worked on many features, commercials, and documentaries, the latter being her passion. A member of the Director’s Guild of America, she is known for her enthusiasm and collaborative spirit. She lives in Chicago with her husband, two children, and dog, Buddy.
